Community Conversations – CCA 25 Years Ago

Announcement mailer for the 4th annual Career Day, with Bay Area panelists discussing starting and maintaining a fine arts career. This event was organized by CCAC Student Life and Career Services and was held in Nahl Hall on CCAC's Oakland Campus on April 10, 1993. Panelists: Kerri Condron, Suzanne Baizerman, Katrina Traywick, Rachel Osajima, Hershell West, Remi Rubel, Ann Morhauser, Randolph Belle. The flyer was designed by Talla Wesely & Jennifer Andreoni, both members of Sputnik, CCAC's in-house design studio.

Led by two leaders of prominent members of Bay Area art initiatives, Mark Thompson (Headlands Center for the Arts) and Sonia B. Gray (Director of Community Arts and Education Program, SF Arts Commission), this event was one in a series of workshops designed to prepare fine arts students for a professional practice post-graduation.

In April of 1995, the Humanities & Science Department hosted a 5 day forum addressing topics regarding race, class, and gender. Speakers included faculty members, students, and visiting artists.

CCAC hosted a series of lectures during AIDS Awareness Week. Speakers included Gloria Lockett, who co-founded Cal-PEP (the California Prostitutes Education Project) in 1984, artists involved in the Name Quilt Project, and many other AIDS activists.

CCA started establishing a presence in San Francisco in the 1970s, after the founding of the Interior Design Program, using leased space for its Architecture and Design programs which were experiencing tremendous growth. This mailer was for the CCAC Open House at the college’s 1700 17th Street location, at DeHaro, on November 13, 1995, the college’s third SF location. A year later CCAC would begin renovations on a permanent campus in the Potrero Hill neighborhood at 1111 Eighth Street, now CCA’s main San Francisco campus building.
