Faculty Library Privileges
Library card: Obtain a library barcode for your CCA ID at either circulation desk; if you do not have a CCA ID, present a letter signed by your dept. head that indicates the period of your appointment.
Loan periods: Faculty may check out books for four weeks, current periodicals for two days, and av materials for two days; three renewals can be made, except when an item is recalled for use by another patron; the system permits thirty items to be checked out at any one time.
Non-circulating materials: Faculty may bring library-use-only items to their classrooms during the class period; use of archival and special collections materials outside of the library may require special arrangement.
Fines: Faculty are not assessed overdue fines; however, a non-refundable charge of $10.00 is assessed when books are five weeks overdue. Fees can by avoided by renewing materials by phone or online, which enables faculty to keep books out for four months at a time.
Special faculty categories: Tenured faculty, upon retirement, continue to have full library privileges. Those who have been designated Adjunct Professor Emeritus maintain full privileges as well. See also separate webpages for CCA Extension faculty and visiting artist/lecturer privileges.
New or returning faculty are eligible for faculty privileges beginning three months prior to the start date of their appointment. Bring the employment contract or a signed letter on CCA letterhead from the department or program chair indicating the term of the appointment, along with a photo ID, to either circulation desk.
How to obtain a UC Berkeley library card
Full-time faculty members from an accredited 2 or 4 year college or university within the state of California may obtain a library card entitling them to limited borrowing privileges by presenting a letter on school letterhead confirming their full-time affiliation with that school. (UC President Clark Kerr extended free library privileges to this group of users on March 16, 1964.) More info.
Contact Jodi Redmon x3635 to obtain full-time CCA employment verification.
Apply for a card at the Privileges Desk, located on the 1st floor of Doe Library, at the entrance to the Gardner Stack. Valid identification is required.
