constitution day

Did you know? Sept 16th is.... CONSTITUTION DAY!

In September of 1787, the Founding Fathers signed the most influential document in American history: the United States Constitution. CCA Libraries is celebrating Constitution Day with a video clips from the play Alexander Hamilton - the wildly popular, hip-hop musical about the founding father, written by Lin-Manuel Miranda. Miranda recently visited the White House; this clip of that performance includes a great introduction by President Obama.

In Oakland's Meyer Library, we also have the entire collection of Schoolhouse Rock videos on the American government - these animated videos were broadcast on ABC-TV from 1973-1985, and include infectious songs which teach about how our government functions, and about the Constitution.

Copies of the Constitution available in both libraries.

On Monday September 19th, we'll pull from our rare collections a set of printed broadsides featuring the words of our founding fathers. This set of prints was created for the celebration of the bicentenial in 1976.

Stop by and learn something new about our government.
