Recently Tenured Faculty Presentations

On Tuesday, February 27th at 6:30pm the California College of the Arts will honor its most recently tenured faculty with a series of presentations and a reception in Timken Hall on the San Francisco campus. In celebration, we are highlighting a few of the works of scholarship to which they have contributed.

Haakon Faste, Interaction Design, contributed the chapter "Post-human Centered Design" to Helen Armstrong's Digital Design Theory: Readings from the Field, published in 2016. A review in the Sept. 2016 issue of Choice praised how the book "documents the paths design has taken as it has grappled with the biggest technological shift since Gutenberg" and complimented Faste's inclusion as a contemporary voice.

Critical Studies professor Patricia Lange's book Kids on Youtube: Technical Identities and Digital Literacies takes an ethnographic approach to exploring how 10- to 18-year-olds experience the ubiquitous streaming video platform. Dr. Lange touches on a wide-range of subjects, including the gender and social issues that arise amongst participating kids.

Art historian and chair of Visual Studies Elizabeth Mangini is a frequent contributor to Artforum International, one of the world's leading art journals. CCA Libraries have the complete run of the magazine since its founding in 1962, including Dr. Mangini's first contribution in 2006 through her latest, a review of Jim Campbell's recent exhibition at the Hosfelt Gallery that appeared in the December 2017 issue. Major features in Artforum have included "Parallel Revolution: Elizabeth Mangini on Arte Povera" (Nov. 2007), "1000 Words: Guiseppe Penone" (Oct. 2010), and "Dust to Dust: On 'Arte povera più azioni povere 1968'" (May 2012).

Michelle Murillo, artist and chair of Printmaking, wrote the forward to the sumptuous California Society of Printmakers: One Hundred Years 1913-2013 during her term as Society president. The monograph documents the rich legacy of California printmaking with essays, reproductions, and biographical information on significant artists.

These titles as well as other works by our newly tenured faculty are available through CCA Libraries. Take a look at their work and join us in celebrating their achievements.
