Since 2008, the CCA Libraries have hosted an annual Book Arts Competition to recognize the wonderful, creative works of our students which play with the possibilities of the book form. Currently, there are three award categories for the Book Arts Competition:

  • Handmade: Handmade book in any medium or form
  • Content: Handmade or commercially printed book where the content is the primary consideration for judging (example: photography, graphic design, comic books or graphic novels)
  • Research & Design: Handmade or commercially printed book where the design and research into the content of the book is the primary consideration for judging (example: graphic design)

The widest possible definitions of a book are considered. Submissions are judged by all of the Libraries' staff and winners receive a monetary prize as well as having their work permanently added to the Libraries Artists' Books Collection. The contest runs once a year in the Spring—keep an eye on our home page for the announcement and deadline dates!

Below is a selection of winners from previous years. At the bottom of this exhibit is a comprehensive list of past winners with links to their works in the library catalog. You can view many of these works as interactive flipbooks in VAULT (a CCA login is needed to view all items).

Complete List of Book Arts Award Winners

Note that the award has changed in nature over the years, as the Libraries used to offer a separate research award which was eventually converted into the Research & Design category. If a title below is not linked it's because we haven't cataloged it yet.
