Announcing the Faculty Research Collection

It's Open Access Week, a week devoted to raising awareness about the value of freely available research. As one of our activities, we at the CCA Libraries created a new Faculty Research collection in VAULT. Now, CCA faculty and staff can deposit their original journal articles and book chapters where they can be publicly viewed and cited.

Why would you want to make your academic writing freely available? There are several benefits:

  • Studies have shown it increases exposure, including the number of times a work is cited
  • It ensures work will be preserved even if a journal shuts down or a book goes out of print
  • Open access information is key to the sustainability of scholarship

Additionally, we hope that eventually our Faculty Research collection will be aggregated in search engines like Google Scholar and OAIster which could greatly increase their visibility.

But wait, that's not all! For the next couple weeks, the library will upload your research articles for you. We know that it takes precious time to complete VAULT contributions, so you can email a copy of any academic publication to vault@cca.edu and we will upload it, then send you a link to the final result.
